BOOK REVIEW “Purple Moonlight”

Balwant Gargi was a renowned Punjabi dramatist, novelist, and short story writer. He wrote many Punjabi novels, plays. Gargi was awarded the Sahitya Akademi award, the highest Indian literary award, in 1962 for his play ‘Rang Manch’. This was followed by the Padma Shri (1972), and the Sangeet Natak Akademi award in 2000. And ‘Purple Moonlight’ is auto-biography of Gargi. Artist’s biographies are always amazing to read as they are vibrant and colorful. They tend to live life on their own terms.

And this book does not disappoint you altogether. His life story is nothing less interesting than any novel. I always think real life stories are better than fictions only if they are told truthfully. Balwant Gargi’s account of his life seems real and more enjoyable as he penned his experiences with many well known Artistic and Political personalities.

If I have to rate this book I will give it 7 out of 10.
